Exodus 3:1-15

"The exodus is a powerful symbol that the present situation does not define what is possible for God."

—Terence E. Fretheim

Join us this fall as we journey through the book of Exodus on Sunday mornings, exploring the concept of divine promise that leads the Israelites from oppression to freedom, absence to presence, disorder to order, darkness to light, the wilderness to the Promised Land. Sunday's text begins with Moses tending his new father-in-law's sheep when he encounters a burning bush. His seeing and paying attention to the bush enables him to both hear and encounter God—God who sees, hears, and knows the suffering of God's people. But God doesn't leave the Israelites to suffer. Rather, God calls an ordinary person—a man who has just committed murder—to lead the people into a new creation. Can we trust that God continues to see and know our suffering? How might God be calling us now--even now!--to lead people into the dawn of a new reality? This story is filled with very good news and powerful invitations to ponder. We cannot wait to share it with you!
