In the month of September, the MVP Young Adult (20s and 30s) Community will gather on the THIRD SUNDAY for a time a time for brunch and community connection. The group will depart from the church together following worship to walk to a nearby restaurant to share a meal and time in community. The group typically gathers on the SECOND SUNDAY of each month, but will gather one week later so that MVP Young Adults can participate in the Fall Ice Cream Social scheduled for Sunday, September 13.

What does it mean to be “a man after God’s own heart”? Join MVPers this fall for a 7-week Bible study on the life of King David, meeting September 20 through November 1. Together, the group will gather in the Office Suite Conference Room on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45am to explore David’s remarkable journey from shepherd to king, his greatest triumphs and deepest failures, the consequences that unfolded within his family, and his lasting influence on faith, culture, and literature. Celebrate community at MVP with a joyful afternoon of ice cream, games, and fellowship following worship on Sunday, September 13. Gather on the front lawn for a relaxed time of fun and community for all ages. MVP will provide the ice cream, and participants are invited to bring a favorite topping to share, such as whipped cream, sprinkles, brownies, cookies, or fruit. You are invited to spend an evening outdoors with friends from the MVP community on Sunday, August 23 at 6:00pm at the sand volleyball courts on the National Mall. Come ready to play, cheer from the sidelines, or simply enjoy conversation and time together in a beautiful setting. All ages and skill levels are welcome, and no volleyball experience is necessary. MVP will kick off the fall season with a congregational potluck following worship on Sunday, August 23. Everyone is invited to bring a favorite side dish or dessert and enjoy good food, meaningful conversation, and quality time together. This gathering will offer an easy way to reconnect with each other, welcome new people to MVP, and spend time together as this new season begins. At MVP, we envision a world where all people know that they are beloved and that people knowing this truth could change everything. We also know that sometimes, we need tangible reminders to prevent us from forgetting this basic truth. That's why we want to send students of all ages, teachers, professors, and administrators back to school with a special tag for their bags and backpacks. A special benefit concert will be held on Sunday, August 16, at 1:00pm in support of Loran, the granddaughter of MVP’s organist, David Yoder, who has been accepted into a distinguished program at the Tchaikovsky School in Yerevan, Armenia. This concert, featuring performances by members of the extended Yoder family, will offer an afternoon of beautiful music while raising funds through a free will donation offering toward the purchase of a piano for Loran’s studies. The program will last less than one hour, making it an easy and meaningful way to enjoy music, celebrate this exciting opportunity, and support a gifted young musician as she begins the next stage of her education. Starting on Monday, July 20, you are invited to join the Monday Night Bible Study for a new 6-week study exploring Voices of Resistance: The Bible’s Songs of Victory, Peace, and Protest by Amanda C. Miller. This study will run through August 24 and will gather on Monday evenings from 7:00–8:15pm. This study will engage the Bible’s songs of victory, peace, and protest, listening for how Scripture gives voice to hope, lament, courage, and faithful resistance in the face of injustice. Through these songs, this study will create space for meaningful conversation, spiritual reflection, and a deeper understanding of how God’s people have sung, prayed, and proclaimed the promise of liberation and peace. Whether you have read a dozen books about race and racism or none before, you are invited to join the MVP Racial Justice Reading Group. The group will gather on Tuesday, July 14 from 7:00-8:15pm in space created for open and honest dialogue on Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes by Tamim Ansary. You are invited to join the Monday Night Bible Study for a special Deep Dive into Scripture on Monday July 13 from 7:00–8:15pm. Together, the group will take a closer look at a biblical passage, exploring how Scripture speaks through its context, language, themes, and meaning for our lives today. This study is part of Minister Lee’s ongoing ordination process, and your presence and participation would be a gift. This Bible study sessions will meet on Zoom. Participants will also be invited to complete an evaluation of the Bible Study. Whether you are a regular part of the group or would like to join just for this session, you are welcome. As we move into this mid-summer season, MVP's Children's Ministry will begin a new 4-week exploration in Sunday School focused on praise and the many ways we give thanks to God. Our Faith Word of the Month is “PRAISE” and our Bible Verse is Psalm 150:6.

“Let every living thing praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!”

Throughout the month, our children will explore what it means to praise God with our voices, our prayers, our creativity, our gratitude, and the way we live each day. Together, we will remember that all of creation is invited to praise the Lord, and that every child has their own beautiful way to thank God. We look forward to growing together during this joyful season and invite you to please contact Minister Lee to learn more about how your children can participate.

All Young Adults (20s and 30s) are invited to join other MVP Young Adults for a Washington Nationals game outing on Wednesday, July 8, at 6:45pm. Tickets are expected to be approximately $12–$15 each in the section being considered. Come connect with other young adults and enjoy a relaxed summer evening at Nationals Park. As DC prepares to host Capital Pride in June, MVPers are invited to live out our values of "Proclaiming Belovedness" and "Creating Authentic & Inclusive Community" by participating in the 2026 Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 20. MVP may have up to 10 people walk in the parade as part of our witness this year, and others are invited to gather with United Methodists from across the DMV along the parade route to watch and celebrate together. MVP Shower Ministry volunteers and other interested members of the congregation are invited to save the date for a free First Aid and CPR Demonstration Class at Mount Vernon Place UMC on Saturday, June 13, from 10:00am to 12:00pm. In response to requests from Shower Ministry volunteers for additional training, this class will offer demonstrations on basic first aid, Stop the Bleed, and hands-only CPR, taught by DC Fire and EMS. Please note that this course does not provide official CPR or first aid certification, but is meant to equip MVPers for emergency situations.
