Taking God Seriously: Lessons from Archbishop Tutu || Ubuntu

Sunday, January 30, 2022 || 11:00am

Rev. Dr. Donna Claycomb Sokol || Pastor

Psalm 71:1-6 & 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

In his book, No Future Without Forgiveness, Desmond Tutu wrote, “Ubuntu is very difficult to render into a Western language. It speaks of the very essence of being human. When we want to give high praise to someone we say, ‘Yu, u nobuntu’; ‘Hey, so-and-so has ubuntu.’ Then you are generous, you are hospitable, you are friendly and caring and compassionate. You share what you have. It is to say, ‘My humanity is caught up, is inextricably bound up, in yours.’ We belong in a bundle of life."

How might we practice and embody ubuntu today--with our friends and our enemies, those we love and those we struggle to love? Join us on Sunday as our series, "Taking God Seriously," continues with a look at what it might mean for us to see and love one another the way we imagine God sees and loves us.
