Genesis: Let's Start at the Very Beginning || The Favored One
Abraham has been told he will become the father of many nations even though his wife, Sarah, is barren. Finally she conceives and gives birth to Isaac. Isaac marries Rebekah. We then learn that Rebekah is also barren. Isaac intercedes on her behalf, and Rebekah's womb is filled with twins--heirs who are locked in so much conflict before their birth that Rebekah questions life itself. This Sunday, we will hear additional glimpses of the patriarch's complex family dynamics and grasps for power. It is a story that leaves the reader asking, "Does God play favorites?"
