Post-Traumatic Growth: Lessons from the Pandemic || Why Resiliency Isn't Enough

Mark 5:21-43

While some of us struggled to spell "resilience" prior to 2020, others of us are surrounded by constant reminders to bounce back as quickly as possible from whatever adversity or difficult conditions we are facing. Resiliency is hailed as a mark of an effective leader or business. Countless books and articles have been written on how to cultivate it. But is resiliency enough when so much has been turned upside down? Are we supposed to simply get up and pull ourselves up by our bootstraps when we lose something precious to us or are suffering in body, mind or spirit? This Sunday, our lesson focuses on two people in desperate need of healing. One is used to having the capacity to push himself to the front of the line to get what he wants. The other is used to being relegated to the back where she suffers alone. In the end, both people receive what they most need--not by themselves but through their faith in Jesus. What might we learn from their example and Jesus' response?
