We The People: Healing the Heart of Democracy || The Value of "Otherness"

Sunday, April 18, 2021

Rev. Dr. Donna Claycomb Sokol || Pastor

Acts 3:1-19

People carried him to the temple every afternoon where he would sit outside, asking for alms. Lame since birth, he was allowed to be just outside the gate of the temple, but never brought to the inside until an encounter with two disciples changed everything. When did you first learn that some people are "outside" while you are inside? What lessons were instilled within you as a child about "others?" How do our actions perpetuate this teaching? How might we, as people of faith, always embrace the gift of hospitality, the welcoming of the "other?" Join us on Sunday as our series, "We the People: Healing the Heart of Democracy," inspired by the writing of Parker Palmer, continues with an exploration of the second habit necessary to heal the heart of democracy: developing an appreciation of the value of 'otherness.'
