MVP's 175th Anniversary Celebration Worship || Fan The(ir) Flame
Sunday, June 15, 2025 || 11:00am
Rev. Dr. Donna Claycomb Sokol || Pastor
Join us for a special worship service this Sunday in which we will tell our church's story, name specific examples of profound faithfulness, and be inspired to become the fullest expression of Jesus' love and light for the decades to come. Worship will include special music, heartfelt testimony, and a sermon inspired by John Wesley's early learnings from going to the people, a practice he once considered vile as he preached outside instead of in the confines of a church building. He then told the early people called Methodists that they should "be more vile." Methodist historian Ashley Boggan has coined the phrase "Wesleyan Vile-Tality," and defines it as "a willingness to look beyond today's acceptable practices, standards, and norms and bend the rules in order to ensure that more and more persons can be included within the kin-dom of God." What might we learn from this concept? How have MVPers been vile in the past? How might we allow their example to inspire us today? Join us as we ponder these questions and more.
