Awakened to the Ways of Jesus || Insistent and Persistent
The word "woke" was first used as a call for black liberation by Jamaican activist Marcus Garvey more than 100 years ago. It continued to be used within some communities to refer to an awareness of injustice. It is now often used as a buzzword to describe anything that is too liberal or progressive. There are "woke" companies, people, and cultures.
What if we were to borrow part of the original meaning of the word and become "awakened" to the ways of Jesus in an effort to gain a deeper understanding of Mark's Jesus—what he stood for, the actions he took, the words he spoke, and their potential meaning for us today?
Our series, "Awakened to the Ways of Jesus" continues this week with another challenging text in which Jesus reveals his expectations for all who seek to follow him. Together we will ponder what it means to call Jesus Lord, place him before every other person or priority, and carry the cross—only to discover the life that is really life in return.
