Good Friday Worship || A Tenebrae Service of Worship
Good Friday takes us to the cross where Jesus was crucified. Our community will gather at 6:45pm to reflect on the Stations of the Cross with a Tenebrae (Latin for "shadows" or "darkness") service. Tenebrae is characterized by a series of Scripture readings and meditations done in stages while candles are gradually extinguished to symbolize the growing darkness not only of Jesus’ death but of hopelessness in the world without God. The service ends in darkness with a final candle, the Christ candle, extinguished, symbolizing the death of Jesus. Worshippers will be invited to leave in silence to wait for the hope that is to come on Sunday morning.
