Peter, James, and John were not prepared for what they experienced at the top of a mountain with Jesus—the images of Jesus being transfigured before their eyes before being joined by Moses and Elijah. Some Bible translations suggest the disciples were filled with fear on top of the mountain of transfiguration. Others translate their response as "awe." What if God is not only found in fear and awe, but also uses fear and awe to come to us and transform us?
