Ephesians 1:3-14

“The journey begins with faith—faith in the dignity and the worth of every human being. That is an idea with roots in scripture and in the canon of America, in Genesis and in the Declaration of Independence. The journey is sustained by persistence—persistence in the pressing of the justice of the cause. And the journey is informed by hope—hope that someday, in some way, our restless souls will bring heaven and earth together, and God will wipe away every tear.” These words belong to the late Congressman John Lewis who died one year ago, on July 17, 2020. This summer, we will be exploring this journey taken by Lewis and dozens of other Freedom Riders who saw a vision of what could be and worked tirelessly for it to come to fruition. Inspired by historian Jon Meacham's book, His Truth is Marching On, with weekly scripture passages from the book of Ephesians, our series will explore what the beloved community is, how we might be grounded in love, what it means to manage our anger, how to make the most of time, why we are called to continue the struggle today, and more.
