This is Us: The Heart of MVP || Beloved. || Reconciling Sunday

“'This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased.' We read these words spoken about Jesus at his baptism and then again when he is transfigured. At Mount Vernon Place, we believe God speaks these words about every single person. Not only are we all made in God’s image, we are also the reason God’s heart beats and sometimes skips a beat. And we believe that living into our belovedness can change everything."
These words are offered as an explanation on our church's website for what it means to "Proclaim and Demonstrate 'You are Beloved'" as a core value of our congregation.
We return to these words alongside an exploration of the profound truths found in Psalm 139 as we ponder again how we might lean into the reality of our being beloved while doing everything possible to help people experience the depth of God's love.
