Racial Justice Reading Group || Natchez Documentary Film Discussion

  • Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church 900 Massachusetts Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20001 United States (map)

For its December gathering, the MVP Racial Justice Reading Group is trading the page for the screen! Whether you are a regular participant or joining the conversation for the first time, you are invited to explore the powerful documentary film Natchez, which examines how a Mississippi community reckons with its history of slavery, racial injustice, and the stories it chooses to tell about its past. Through the perspectives of historic homeowners, tour guides, and local activists, the film raises important questions about whose histories are remembered, whose voices are overlooked, and what it means to confront difficult truths about the past.

The group will gather on Tuesday, December 1, at 7:00pm for open and honest dialogue about the film and its implications for the ongoing work of racial justice. Participants are encouraged to watch the documentary on PBS before the gathering. Please contact Minister Lee for more information and the Zoom link.
